We highly recommend you do your own research before coming to stay, and get yourself a good local map e.g. Ordnance Survey Explorer Map 14. However, here are a couple of recommendations…

Symonds Yat: Is a truly beautiful destination for amazing river walks, gorges and spectacular views (+ there are a couple of great pubs and eateries). You’ll also find two ancient hand ("pull") ferries by which the ferryman pulls people across the river using an overhead rope. For more information, follow this link: Symonds Yat Walk

Coppit Hill: Is a Local Nature Reserve of over 100 hectares located near Goodrich Castle, with amazing views of the surrounding countryside. For more information, follow this link Coppett Hill Walk

Wye Valley Greenway: The Wye Valley Greenway is a 5 mile off-road path between Tintern Abbey and Chepstow, travelling partially through a beautifully renovated old railway tunnel; for more information and a map, go to Wye Valley Greenway

The Sculpture Trail: Up to 3.5 miles, the trail is located in the midst of the forest, you’ll discover a four mile train of sculptures created by artists to interpret the forest environment and the history of this very unusual landscape. It provides a unique opportunity to walk through the woodlands and discover art along the way. Perfect for all ages and abilities, you don’t need to know about art to enjoy what you see. canoeing & Cycle trails

Canoeing The River Wye provides over 100 miles of breathtaking beauty, many sections are easily navigable by canoe, particularly locally - starting in Ross on Wye or Kerne Bridge for a full or half days paddle down to Symonds Yat (where you’ll find some great pubs and eateries). Cycle Trails & Mountain Biking From our door, you can cycle many kilometres along quiet country lanes, through tiny hamlets, past old pubs and over the river on wooden footbridges. There is also the Forest of Dean and it’s 200km of easy cycle trails, including the popular 15km family cycle route.
